How I Came to Make a Website About Inspirational Quotes
Hello! My name is Fion. I live in a small, sunny and efficient country, Singapore. Lots of trees are planted everywhere to keep our island-city-state green and beautiful. It's a safe and orderly place to be in. When people asked me what do I do for a living? I told them I work from home on my websites. They gave me a blank look. This website helps to pay for my bills. Most days, I spend time working on my hobby websites, and this is my main one. My family and friends can't understand how could I be making a living online. I don't blame them, after all none of the people we know are doing what I'm doing. To many, without a proper job, I'm just an unemployed statistic. Many people have jobs and grumble about their "9 to 5" routine. It's even worse now with the bad economic times. On top of being unhappy with crappy jobs, they also face the fear of being laid-off suddenly. They're resigned to being stuck at dull and sometimes stressful work to pay for the rising costs of living. I used to be like them too. Many times, I dragged my feet to my ex-offices with a heavy heart that's sobbing in quiet desperation. Looking back, my misery and desperation pushed me towards to discovering a better way out...
The World is My Oyster... NOTUpon graduating from school with a degree, for the initial months, I believed in this... Follow your passion, and success will follow you. -- Arthur Buddhold --Problem was, I didn't know exactly what my passion was. I just knew that I enjoy writing, but I didn't see myself good enough to pursue a career in journalism. Instead I ended up in administrative jobs that I dreaded, out of family obligation and a limited mindset. Quickly, my high hopes evaporated. I began to see a job as a mean to pay for bills, entertainment, fashion and short vacations. Work was boring. BUT... My emotions refused to give up on me. They bugged me. How? By making me feel downright miserable about my job...
A Turning PointA particularly gloomy administrative job in 2002 rocketed my frustration level. Each morning, to walk down the 5-minute stretch of concrete pathway to the office allowed my fallen feelings to gnaw at me. How exciting can it be to be dealing with endless piles of paperwork and distasteful office politics for the next 20 or 30 years? Gulp. That's scary! I couldn't see a purpose in what I was doing. Was there supposed to be something more than this mindless clocking in of hours at a job I didn't care about? Of course there was, but I too miffed by my misery to see opportunities. Six months later, I quit that job without securing another job first. Flipping through the Recruitment section of the newspapers was demoralizing. No proven sales track record, no specialized knowledge, I was as limited in my job options as I was in thinking. The good thing was, I decided to try something "new" to me. For the next two years, I dabbled in network marketing, failed at several Internet get-rich-quick schemes, and worked at temporary positions that didn't require much skills. I even experimented with massage therapy and stopped shortly after completing my training. Exhibiting my reserved amount of coconut-crushing strength on stressed out and demanding bodies wasn't my idea of following a passion. Don't fear failure so much that you refuse to try new things. The saddest summary of a life contains three descriptions: could have, might have, and should have. -- Louis E. Boone --During this time, my desire to work from home blossomed. I started to dream of working from home, on my own time, without bosses to peek over my shoulders...More importantly, doing work I enjoy and find purposeful. Back to the keyboard and Internet, I searched for more possibilities.
I Stumbled Upon ItHmmm... I can't remember exactly how I stumbled upon SBI! (Site Build It!). It might be during one of my many Internet travels to search for a way to work from home or to make money online. From its numerous case studies, I read of how ordinary people transformed their passions, expertise or knowledge about a topic into successful websites that earn them money! I read of how a guy from Israel created a kids' parties website that earns him a full-time income, supporting his family and his traveling passion. I also read about how a hairstylist now owns a successful hairstyling website, and had the Editor-in-Chief of a publishing house in New York approached her to write articles for their hair magazines. Then there's the 14-year-old who built her site about her family vacations on one of the Caribbean islands. She's not only earning good money from her website, she's also a mini celebrity recognized by that island locals. Was I inspired? Sure! And I want to be one of them. My youthful hope to follow my passion and become successful resurfaced. My desire to work from home intensified. To cut a long story short, SBI! was the key I used to unlock my passion and turned it into a successful website that you're on right now. :-) Thank you for reading my story till this far! If you're already earning money doing work you love and enjoy, that's simply wonderful! I wish you greater success, joy, and stay inspired always! BUT... if you're not, then I'll like to show you how you too can be turning your passion, hobby or interest into a successful website earning you an income. I'll like to invite you to read about My SBI! page where I share my experience in building up this website.
