Do You? - Visitor's Love Poem
by Renu Tirkey
(Hyderabad, India)
You say you’ve found her and you seem all happy again
But tell me do you really love her
or it’s just the fancy of the airs?
Do you call her late at night or at odds in the day
Simply to her hear her voice or to say “ I love you” again?
Do you two greet each other with hugs
and words travelling between the eyes
Or are your meetings loud and noisy
drowning everything the heart has to say?
Do you two laugh together when
you’ve failed miserably at one of life’s games?
Or do you pretend to be polished and suited
just for the impression of winners' ways?
Do you share jokes with her, when she is the theme of it?
Or do you recite copied sonnets just to make her pleased?
Do you sometimes sit to eat whatever’s cooked and burnt?
And still enjoy the meal thoroughly
for the love which in it was blend
Do you often dress for a party but stay at home to be
Holding her hand under the stars,
talking about dreams turning into realities?
Do you tell her about girls you like
as you would have told a friend
And does she then come with you to see
if they’re as pretty as you said?
Do you share your fears with her,
tell her you darkest nights?
Does she then wrap you in her arms,
assuring you “It’ll be just alright”?
Do you discuss your family with her,
can she relate to them as her own?
Or are you two just for each other,
forgetting all other loved ones?
Do I still think of you is such a stupid question asked
For some memories are never erased.
You will remain my Zahir yet I wish you well
May the two of you each other have,
may you live as one
This is the prayer I seek for thee
For the sake of times when we were “we”
