Fear - Visitor's Poem

There's a fear that lies deep inside us - a fear of the unknown
The what ifs, the should I?
They lie within us smoldering like a hot ember.
Afraid to make the wrong decision,
Afraid to hurt or be hurt
Afraid to take the path that will leave us alone and frail.
So we sit and we do nothing,
We go about our routines and let the fires of fears engulf us inside
We cower down and allow the fears to choose our path.
Yet why should we not fear looking back at wasted time?
Time that was given to us to use for a purpose,
time that fate played a part in.
Is it better to make no decision at all rather than a bad one?
Can we not learn from hurt and hurting
if that is what the path holds?
Take the fear, hold it, acknowledge it, accept it as a part of you
Take back its control and then trust.
With the fear grasped firmly in your hand, leap and trust.
Trust your heart, yourself, your deepest feelings and inner soul.
Allow yourself freedom from the fear.
There will always be choices to make and paths to choose,
If fear remains your guide - you will have succumbed to that which you feared the most - a wasted life!
