Here's a collection of great quotes by David L. Weatherford.

David is a child psychologist with published poems in "Chicken Soup for the Soul", and he is the author of "Slow Dance", a poem widely reproduced throughout the Internet.

I first contacted David for permission to reprint some of his beautiful poems on my site. He kindly agreed and pointed out that he has a collection of aphorisms that I might want to look at. I thought I could easily pick up a few, but I was wrong!

I'm very delighted by many of his aphorisms and I found myself picking up a many of them! So I quickly decided to turn my selection into a page of David's quotes right here for your enjoyment.

Read and reread each of his quotes slowly and enjoy every one of them!

A flower that is not the prettiest in the garden may yet have the loveliest fragrance.

A soul that did not suffer would never fully know itself.

As a child I looked up at this imposing figure and saw the hero of my little world. Today, I face my Dad eye-to-eye and I look up to him even more, for he is a giant of goodness, decency, and generosity --- and my hero still.
-- David L. Weatherford

Even when standing in the deepest, darkest valley, one can still see the stars.
-- David L. Weatherford

Forgiveness is like exercise. It can be so hard to bring ourselves to do it -- but when we do, we often feel rejuvenated, enjoy a sense of self-satisfaction, and ultimately improve our general well-being.

Love communicated to another, does not say " Be what I want you to be and make me happy". It says rather, "Be what you need to be and let me help you".
-- David L. Weatherford

I can lead a fuller, richer life if I follow two maxims:
1) I will live each day as though it were my last.
2) I will treat others as though the same were true for them.
-- David L. Weatherford

I don't know the meaning of life, the purpose of humanity, or why I'm even here. But I do know that anytime I act out of love, the world just feels right to me.
-- David L. Weatherford

If I had nothing more to look forward to in this life than love, that would be enough.
-- David L. Weatherford

If we can love ourselves in spite of our faults and foibles, and if we can accept our own weaknesses and wrongdoings, then why do we resist loving and accepting others because they do not meet our expectations?
-- David L. Weatherford

If you don't appreciate what you've got, you've got nothing.
-- David L. Weatherford

It is a law of human nature that if you give love, you will receive love.
-- David L. Weatherford

It was while sinking in the sea of suffering that I learned, hope floats.
-- David L. Weatherford

I'm not so much afraid of death as I am of not having lived fully.
-- David L. Weatherford

In reflecting on the times of my life, it occurs to me that the difficult, arduous experiences always pass, or at least wane to a tolerable level. On the other hand, thankfully, the positive, uplifting aspects of my life journey seem to hold strong and steady throughout, as long as I appreciate and nurture them.
-- David L. Weatherford

Love is a curious thing. The more you give it away, the more it comes back to you.
-- David L. Weatherford

Love needs space and freedom. That which clings to, possesses, and suffocates another is not love, but the fear of losing love. True love knows no fear.
-- David L. Weatherford

Love must be free like a bird; it cannot flourish when captured and caged. Part of its wonder is in knowing that it flies in our blue sky of its own choosing.
-- David L. Weatherford

No day is wasted in which I touch another person's life in any positive, meaningful way. And so it is that I enrich my days by giving something of myself whether through a warm smile, a kind word, a sympathetic ear, a gentle embrace, or a helping hand.
-- David L. Weatherford

No one else can make you happy -- you must do that for yourself. But others can make you unhappy. Never give anyone that power over you.
-- David L. Weatherford

Of all life's gifts, surely the sweetest and most precious is to be loved -- simply to be loved.
-- David L. Weatherford

People need to quit worrying about the aging process, and concentrate on the living process.
-- David L. Weatherford

The light of humanity never shines brighter than those moments in which someone reaches into the darkness of another's suffering to offer comfort.
-- David L. Weatherford

The value of what you do is best measured not by possessions acquired or accolades received, but by what you achieve, what you learn, and most importantly, what you become in the process.
-- David L. Weatherford

There is a force in this world that is greater than any other I have ever witnessed. It is beautiful in its sweet tenderness and awesome in its unconquerable strength. It is so touching it can bring you to tears, and yet so powerful it would frighten you should you ever be on the wrong side of its wrath as it seeks to protect and defend. It has had immense influence on humanity down through the ages, working its wonder on the world one person at a time. It is in itself proof of God, for there could be no other source for something so pure and precious, magical and meaningful, gracious and generous, tender and true, powerful and passionate, life-giving and life-affirming.What is it? A mother's love for her child.
-- David L. Weatherford

Those who can laugh at their own follies are seldom without an amused audience.
-- David L. Weatherford

Those who stop to whine every time they step on a pebble will never make it to the top of the mountain.
-- David L. Weatherford

Through the haze of hardship and misfortune we often have our clearest vision of just how much we really have.
-- David L. Weatherford

We enjoy warmth because we have been cold.
We appreciate light because we have been in darkness.
By the same token, we can experience joy because we have known sorrow.
-- David L. Weatherford

We never stand taller than when we stoop down to help someone who has fallen.
-- David L. Weatherford

What do I lose if I assume everything will turn out for the best?
-- David L. Weatherford

Worry does not contribute to life. It takes away from life. Worry is a thief. It robs us of our time, diminishes enjoyment, and reduces the quality of the present moment. At our journey's end, we may look back and realize that every hour spent worrying was a precious gift thrown away. To worry, is to steal from one's self.
