Held - Visitor's Poem

Being young is hard.
We have this stress upon us, this…certain pressure.
We are looked down upon
We are supposed to be this person that others “want” us to be.
The real question is
When is the last time someone asked “Who do you want to be?”
Now, parents are different
Of course they want you to be who you want to be,
But deep down, they have expectations and goals set for us
So what happens when we are not successful?
What happens when we’re not who they wanted us to become?
They hold you
They hold you when no one else will
They don’t care at that moment
Whether you failed the biggest test of your life
Or you made the hugest mistake ever
They just hold you
They take away all of your worries
They take away all of your pain
The next thing you know is that everything is okay
You still have a family that cares about you…
No matter what
They make it easier to stand back up when you have fallen
They help you as you take the next step
In the end, when you have reached the finish line,
The first thing you should do is look for them
Give them a smile or a heads up
Just to let them know you remembered
You remembered that they were the reason you have made it this far
Sure, you did most of the running and you made it to the end
But, how did you get there?
Do you recall rising on your own?
Do you remember as you took the next step?
Parents are the reason we are who we are today
I thank God every day for mine
Do you?
