Passionate Goose - Visitor's Poem

by Yeshi Gemaneh
(Oakland, CA, USA)

A wide window screen of my apartment put me in a position to view my surroundings and beyond. A beautiful sparkling lake which is home to many birds; joggers sweating to reach their destinations, and seniors are dawdling to share morning sun and to breath fresh air. Not to mention speedy cars and gasping buses. Most impressing and enjoyable of all are the geese. I tried to portray them as follows:

Passionate Goose

Wheezing breath-during this dry summer
There was not much space to hide
Observing eye, yielded to deliberate
Passers-by
Mother and baby goose
To the spot at cross road
Took control of heavy traffic
Undistracted by neighborhood noise
The graceful goose stopped
All the cars behind
"It is okay to slow down once in a while."
Traffic light had no say this time
except to smile
Orderly, they went to the field to
Nibble at what earth offered them
Then calmly went back to lake
To cool from the heat of the day
Passionate goose made it all wisely
In forgiven manner.
