Reflection - Visitor's Poem
by Aryn Nantau
(Windsor, Ontario. Canada)
I look at the girl in front of me
she's lost but quickens her pace
There's something familiar about her, and it's not just her face.
She doesn't stop at the red lights, she doesn't look both ways,
Instead she goes and crosses the street onto another phase.
She hides behind a mask the one she made by hand
afraid of being rejected or having somebody not understand
If you look real closely you can see the tears in her eyes
and if you look even closer you can see through her disguise.
She turns away from the world leaving it behind her back
she never stops but keeps walking onto another track.
She doesn't know where she's going, ignoring the dead ends
passing by the signs and the signals each one sends.
I watch her as she falls deep into a hole
I feel her pain inside of me truly in my soul
i reach out my hands to save her
but stopped by the glass
as I turn away from the mirror
I walk away from my past.
