The Camouflage Cap - Visitor's Poem
by Mary Walker Butler
(Gadsden, AL, USA)
There it hung on the very spot where he left it that fine day. He said, "Now don't you worry so, for you know I'll head back this way."
My son, now a tall, kind man, had made his mama so proud. He had always wanted to help, you know, no matter how big the crowd.
He always gives his hand freely whenever a person's in need. He'll go that extra mile if he must, to perform that special deed.
But one day he went so far away And I hated to see him go; I knew he was doing what he felt was right. My heart knew some goodness he'd sow.
He left this uniform cap for me, so I knew he'd really come back. I left it hanging all this time in the hall on the old coat rack.
I've kept a watch on that old camouflage cap, to be sure it was kept just for him. I'd made real sure it stayed in this spot, And I daily brushed off the old brim.
He kept the promise he made that day; he's now back where he was born. He fought a good fight and helped keep us safe. Now that camouflage cap will be worn! God bless our Military Troops!
