The Wick - Visitor's Poem
by Nabeel A. Khan
(New Delhi, India)
I am a wick left in open with little fuel in it
Burning sincerely without a single wink
Don’t know how long will I survive
As the stormy wind around turns into freak
Will I wither or give the hostile squall a strong fight
I have no option but to weather it and survive
I am and will fight, burn tip to toe to push on my strive
I have no reason to live on
But to sneak you out of every dark night
You may look at many things in my light but not me
Still your presence shields me from fateful tide
I will continue to stay the blaze on
Keep your world always dazzling and lit
I have no fear but to see the dazzle around you go dim
Pray you! Fuel me before my twilight
As you only know the way to pour into me
With my plucking life I still wish to survive
Awaiting you to refill me before my wish belie
As I desire to see you always in bright
That’s why I wish to survive, survive and survive.
