Train Your Mind - Visitor's Poem

by Donna Cavanagh
(Eagleville, PA, USA)

When worries come knocking at your door
Do not put that welcome mat out
Their goal is to fill your home with fear
And cast shadows of loss and self-doubt

Life is never picture perfect
We all have worries that will pass our way
But we do not have to make these worries our focus
We have the power to decide how long they stay

Instead, train your mind to recognize worry
And cut it off before it takes hold
Do not let it fester in your heart
Seize control and throw it out into the cold

The antidote for worry is gratitude
Saying thanks for all the good you possess
Family and friends that stand by your side
Those who bring comfort in times of distress

You may not know it, but joy is all around you
It is in a sunny day or your dog’s wagging tail
Joy can knock the socks off worry
You just have to allow it in and watch it prevail

Next time worry comes knocking at your door
Turn the lock and walk away
Worry has no place in your home or your heart
Give it no reason to want to stay
