Waiting - Visitor's Poem
by Liz Gillespie
(Scotland, UK)
An empty Chair There’s no one there I sit and stare at the empty chair Alone with my phone Waiting……
The silence breaks A machine awakes The empty chair Is still there Waiting
Not long now A worried brow I continue to stare At the empty chair Waiting
Time ticks by I hear a cry But no one is there In the empty chair And still I am waiting
There’s a rip in the chair Don’t suppose they care because no one is there To sit in the chair Waiting
A Passer by They briefly nod “Hi” They must be elsewhere not filling the chair and so I continue waiting
Patiently waiting in a room just for waiting Sitting in one chair Another over there I stare Waiting
I hope she’s ok and knows I am there baby’s on its way - does she know I care And am sitting there In a chair Waiting
A flurry of commotion The doors fly open It’s a Girl they announce Back through the door they bounce I smile now I’m not Waiting
