An Alcoholic - Visitor's Poem

by Vickie L Smith
(Henderson, West Virginia, USA)

The alcoholic is one who needs to drink everyday.
They want that bottle of booze in their hands.
They just never understand the pain.
Until it's too late.
The booze will eat at their body.
Soon they lose everything they once had.
When a person drinks booze all day.
That my friend is just so sad.
But if you're an alcoholic.
You just can not see.
It will soon cause you to lose everything.
Yourself, your dignity.
How you work so hard for in life to achieve.
It will soon wreck your life.
In which you once had.
Then your start to slip down hill.
If you could only see your self in the mirror my friend.
Then may-be you could understand.
An alcoholic thinks they got nothing to lose.
But oh my friends yes you do.
I wish you could understand.
Why do you do this to your self, your family, your friends.
I will say a prayer for you.
I'll ask God to help me get you off of the booze.
Don't you realize people love you.
I only want what is best for you.
If you would look at your self.
Could you tell me what you would see.
Will you get help for your self please.
Could you take thee exit out.
Ask God to take your hand.
So he may lead you down the right road.
To take you out of booze land.
You need to know what is best for you.
For each booze you drink it is slowly killing you.
It is also taking you away.
I ask will you get help for your self.
Before it's too late.
People love you more than your ever know.
Could you at least take it slow.
Will you try to stay away from booze's road.
I know my words won't mean much.
To someone like you.
But these words come from my heart for you.
You see I loved my Sister more than she knew.
It's too late for her now.
Don't let it be too late for you.
Now I ask others to please be strong enough to bend.
Will you now throw your booze away I pray.
I ask you to get yourself out of booze land.
Amen.
