God's Answer to My Prayers - Visitor's Poem

Be careful of what you ask for God tends to meet your need But he is a God with humor With low tolerance for greed
One day I asked for strength To cope with choices I had made He gave me even more to cope with Lord, where is your compassionate aid?
And then I asked for patience To deal with people in my life He multiplied my irritations And tripled my daily strife
Of course like many of you out there I too need some help With things material in nature dare I challenge my mental health!
I hesitated for a while But gave in, in desperation And true to the recurring theme He worsened my situation
Father, it says so in your word, To ask and it shall be received. Is it that you did not hear me What am I to believe?
Imagine my surprise when his answer to my question Came with a giggle and a nudge as he shared his translation
Child, I heard your cries for help And as my word was written I responded and you received Be quiet.. look, and listen
When you said you required strength I increased the load you carried And like an athlete training with weights You grew in strength that was buried
Your request for patience, my precious child Did not fall on deaf ears The grace and mercy you now display Cannot be compared to previous years
As for the help with your daily takings He said with a twinkle in his eye Look carefully at your priorities And suddenly I wanted to cry
Because as I looked down at my life With new and improved vision I found, for the first time, all the answers To requests from a questioning Christian
Lord, I thank you for your wisdom And your omnipresent nature For the blessings and the lessons And for being my humorous teacher Copyright © 2011 Pranitha Devi Wickins (A.k.a. Nisha Wickins). All rights reserved
